Trail Enhancements – Additional insight
Improving Our Phase 1 Paths
Our trails are some of the most-used spaces in Provence, and we’ve heard from many of you about their condition. Here’s what is happening.
Where things stand
The Phase 1 trails were surfaced with double-cut mulch, chosen for its natural look and soft footing. Between heavy Hill Country rains and the amount of daily use our trails get (a good problem to have), mulch simply needs more upkeep than we want for paths this well-loved. Our goal is a surface that holds up better and stays consistent year-round.

What’s next
Masonwood Development is gathering bids for Phase 1 trail resurfacing. We’re reviewing multiple vendors, including Terrapave, which offers a stabilized natural surface.
Why not decomposed granite?
It’s a fair question, since DG is common on Texas trails. The challenge is our location. Loose DG tends to wash out during storms, and here that runoff would flow into the nearby tributary and Little Barton Creek. Protecting those waterways matters to all of us, so we’re focused on surfaces that stay put.
Timeline
Our target completion is Spring 2027. Once a vendor is selected, we’ll share a construction schedule and any planned trail closures here.
